Our 9th summer season once again saw exciting additions to our programming with more master classes (Chuck Hudson, Audrey Saint-Gil and the Met's Pierre Vallet), more coaching, and more rehearsal time.  Some of New York's best emerging artists were seen in riveting performances of Bizet's Carmen and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites.  Two fantastic young directors (Knud Adams and Victoria Crutchfield) created exciting, engaging theater for our audiences, and received great critical acclaim for their vision.  We're tremendously excited to return to Italian repertoire in 2013, and to be able to offer the Osgood/dell'Arte Opera Ensemble Prize to several talented artists.

2011 Standard Repertoire Project  

at The East Thirteenth Street Theatre, in New York City
featuring 60 singers in debut roles in staged performances of:

Königskinder
In December 2010, dell'Arte Opera Ensemble offered a free presentation of E. Humperdinck's little-known "other opera," the entrancing Königskinder, featuring Katherine Wessinger as the Goose Girl and Caleb Stokes as the King's Son.  The Gerald Lynch Theater at the John Jay College of Justice served as a gracious venue for this tale of two young people's journey to adulthood through an enchanted forest and the venal city of Hellabrunn.

2010 Standard Repertoire Project
The 2010 SRP featured over 70 singers in staged productions of Mozart's masterpiece Le nozze di Figaro, Puccini's Il Trittico (Il Tabarro, Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica) and Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor.  Overflow audiences experienced these exciting performances at Theatre 80 St. Mark's.

The January 2010 BlackBox production of Donizetti's Anna Bolena at Theater 80 St. Marks was well-received by sold-out crowds!  Jill Dewsnup, Kirk Dougherty, Matthew Anchel and Cherry Duke starred, all in debut roles, with Hellgate Harmonie providing the orchestral forces.

Our 2009 Standard Repertoire Project was hugely successful, with large, responsive audiences, and wonderful casts.  Over fifty singers participated and learned new roles in Manon, Don Giovanni & La Bohème, gaining valuable experience and insight into their preparation process. 

Covers, comprimarios and chorus members from the 2009 SRP were featured in a Scenes Showcase in the fall as an extension of their experience in the Standard Repertoire Project, performing for friends, family, and select dell'Arte donors.  They later performed their scenes in outreach performances at the Jewish Home and Hospital.

Cast members from Anna Bolena, along with other dell'Arte alumni, performed for the residents of the Kittay House in the Bronx on January 11th.  It's hard to tell who has a more fullfilling experience: the residents experiencing high-quality performances, or the singers trying out important repertoire in front of an enthusiastic audience.  dell'Arte hopes to return to the Kittay House in the near future.
